POETRY ~ IF JESUS CAME TO YOUR HOUSE

 belong2s1.gif

Jesus came to your house to spend a day or two
If He came unexpectedly, I wonder what you’d do

Oh, I know you’d give your nicest Room to such an honored Guest
And all the food you’d serve to Him would be the very best,

And you’d keep assuring Him you’re glad to have Him there-
That serving Him in your home is joy beyond compare

But when you saw Him coming would you meet Him at the door
With arms outstretched in welcome to your Heavenly Visitor?

Or would you have to change your clothes before you let Him in
Or hide some magazines and put the Bibles where they’d been?

Would you turn off the radio and hope He hadn’t heard
And wish you hadn’t uttered that last, loud, hasty word?

Would you hide your worldly music And put some hymn books out?
Could you let Jesus walk right in, or would you rush about?

And I wonder - if the Savior spent a day or two with you,
Would you go right on doing the things you always do?

Would you keep right on saying the things you always say?
Would life for you continue as it does from day to day?

Would your family conversation keep up it’s usual pace,
And would you find it hard each meal to say a table grace?

Would you sing the words you sing and read the books you read
And let Him know the things on which your mind and spirit feed?

Would you take Jesus with you everywhere you’d planned to go?
Or would you maybe change your plans for just a day or so?

Would you be glad to have Him meet your very closest friends,
Or would you hope they’d stay away until His visit ends?

Would you be glad to have Him stay forever on and on,
Or would you sigh with great relief when He at last was gone?

It might be interesting to know the things that you would do
If Jesus Christ in person came to spend some time with you.

I love the message found within this poem. So many times we have a tendency to put on a facade when visitors come around. But God sees and knows everything that we do. Great write and think about it…a very challenging question…What would you do…..

This poem from my childhood (a while ago) has been on my mind for several days. I especially thought of it yesterday when a young person said negatively, “He even thinks it is wrong to watch movies with bad language.” Now I have to find a way to pass this poem on to her.

This great song was written by Lois Blanchard Eades and sung by Red Sovine.
What a great inspiration. We should all ask ourselves, If JESUS came to our house, what would be do?

As a christian reading this poem , got me to thinking about what I would do and ,as I pondered the answers to the questions …I finally realized …

He has come to “my house” to stay! HE LIVES IN ME!!…So my answers is ..AS SOON AS HE CAME ..Well I did ..CLEAN HOUSE FOR HIM AND MADE NEW FRIENDS AND WATCHED DIFFERENT MOVIES AND READ HIS WORD AND STUDIED HIS WAYS…. LEARNED TO PRAY and I WANT HIM TO STAY FOREVER!!

THIS HAS LONG BEEN A FAVORITE OF MINE AS WELL AS MY YOUNGER SISTER. WHEN MY HUSBAND AND I WORKED WITH THE YOUTH OF THE CHURCH, I WOULD ALWAYS GET A COPY OF THIS POEM, FRAME IT, AND GIVE IT TO THE BRIDE AT A SHOWER OR A TIME TO GIVE GIFTS. IT HAS A BEAUTIFUL MESSAGE AND IS AN INSPIRATION TO LIVE AS HE WOULD HAVE US LIVE. THANK YOU FOR HAVING THIS AVAILABLE. IS THERE ANY WAY TO GET THE MUSIC FOR IT? I’VE NEVER HEARD IT SUNG. THANKS.
